ARRAY SIMULATORS

Spectra-Nova AS Series Solar Array Output Simulators emulate the power generation of a solar array in diverse simulated operating conditions. This capability combined with their fast transient response, makes it possible to power a PV application device in exactly the same way as a solar array will power it during its actual use.

The Array Simulator becomes an invaluable tool in designing and prototyping new solar applications and devices without the expenses and uncertainties related to using a real solar array.

The powerful software has a large data base storing the actual characteristics of the solar modules (crystalline and thin films) made by the major manufacturers around the world ranging from 5 W to 200 W. The operator can use any of them in series/parallel combinations to generate a desired configuration of an array. Modules from different manufacturers or even of different types can be combined.

Key Features:

  • Designed to simulate the electrical power characteristics generated by a solar photovoltaic array.
  • Characterizes the behavior of solar applications at a fraction of the cost of an actual array.
  • Features a comprehensive database of worldwide solar irradiation and temperature values.
  • Power Range: 1 W to 30 kW programmable power supply, rack-mounted.
  • Included industrial PC, rack-mounted.
  • Output voltage limits: 1 VDC to 600 VDC (power supply dependant)
  • Output current limits: 0.1 A to 150 A (power supply dependant)
  • The working latitudes and tilting of the panels are selectable.
  • The output of the array can be obtained for intervals of time at fixed light intensities or based on real daily variation (1 hour  to 10000 hours).
  • The output can be simulated at different ambient temperatures (-50°C to 100°C)
  • Random variations like cloudiness and turbidity can be added.
  • Light concentration ratios (x1-x10).
  • With or without Maximum Power Tracker
  • With or without solar tracking
  • Different working altitudes (light intensity and spectrum modifications)

Options:

The operator even has the option to simulate a hybrid system: photovoltaic-wind-Diesel based on random, daily or seasonal combinations. The total simulated hybrid power is limited to 30 kW.

- Wind simulation options: Wind Turbine Power Range: 5 kW to 20 kW

  • Average annual or monthly wind speed
  • Site Altitude
  • Average Power Output/Daily Energy Output
  • Turbulence Factor/
    Air Density Factor
  • Wind speed probability for annual or monthly average wind speeds given by Weibull distribution or Rayleigh distribution

- Diesel simulation option:

  • Power: 5 kW to 20 kW
